QA Process Manager - Sparks, NV

Summary

Working in collaboration with the Director of Quality Assurance, the Quality Process Manager will serve as the Quality Process Project Manager for the Mustang facility. The QPM will support new product start ups, plant wide HACCP/FOCUS initiatives and risk assessment programs, provide Innovations Support,  monitor KPIs and initiate performance improvement and assure that Mustang Managers have the information, materials, assistance, and expertise needed to execute all tasks effectively and efficiently.  As assigned, the QPM will support other new facilities.

 

The Quality Process Manager in partnership with the MedMen facility Quality Assurance Manager and plant personnel, will assist with quality systems in current facilities as needed, will document outstanding tasks in a formalized manner, and work toward closing gaps using personal expertise, gathering resources, and through collaboration and effective process management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Quality Assurance contact between the plant and the Corporate office related to quality process needs and project completions for strategic work.

  • Execute or guide plant management team in the essential steps of new facility start-up or new product support, including but not limited to: equipment related purchase, installation, commissioning, supply purchase and storage, and other related tasks.

  • Work in relation to sanitary project processes and conformance with 3A sanitary design requirements.

  • Inform and guide assigned plant personnel in quality related projects, product safety, new product and new equipment implementation and criteria.

  • Assure that appropriate documentation available for new facility and/or new product success, or ongoing daily management:

    • FOCUS and other 3rd party audit preparation and materials

    • SOP’s and Work Instructions for appropriate operations 

    • Position Descriptions, Job Task Checklists, Training Materials

    • Other documentation

  • Serve as the primary contact between the plant and the Corporate office related to quality and product safety needs and project completion during start up.

  • Partner and provide support to innovations, commercialization and/or R&D team for quality related project design, DOE support, Testing, Stability testing, commissioning and new product qualification criteria.

  • Provide support for component, ingredient and packaging material review and qualifications.

  • Work in collaboration with compliance to become a facility Subject Matter Expert (SME) in state regulations for assigned facilities and communicate the information to affected stakeholders.

  • Assist in onboarding of new facility Quality Assurance personnel, or personnel from other facilities. Perform training on Quality Assurance SOP’s, policies, methods, sampling locations, equipment, and sanitation requirements to assure a successful transition on an as needed basis.

  • Partner with other facility QA Managers on best practices, or opportunities to improve, and incorporate into other facilities.

  • Serve as interim management for facility Quality Manager or as quality department personnel as needed.   

  • Support all plant Quality related activities, including serving as the primary facility resource for problem identification, resolution, loss reporting and continuous improvement.  

  • Temporarily assume overall responsibility for facility sanitation under the direction of the Plant Manager or designee. 

  • Oversee and direct the audit process related to all cannabis and cannabis containing products produced, held or packaged at the MME facility.

  • Assure that all cannabis and cannabis containing products are properly tested in accordance with company procedures, state requirements, 3rd party expectations and guidelines, at appropriate frequencies, and meet specifications prior to release.

  • Review data for trends and escalate concerns and potential solutions to plant manager.

  • Support QA Manager in ensuring that non-conforming product is isolated and dispositioned appropriately. As required, perform root cause analysis, take preventive action and/or corrective action, and document appropriately.

  • Serve as incoming material contact for corporate personnel at the plant. Monitor and/or verify incoming product meets quality standards in partnership with QA Manager.  Interface with suppliers as needed to ensure product compliance.  Ensure all non-conforming product or components is/are isolated and dispositioned appropriately.  Serve as contact for corporate personnel at the plant. 

  • Assist in developing a Statistical Process Control (SPC) platform for quality and product safety related information and processes. Establish and implement Process Indicators (PI) and metrics (process capability, control charts, measurement quality) for monitoring system effectiveness. Establish collection and analysis systems of statistical data to predict trends that will affect and/or product quality.

  • Develop and provide training for product quality and product safety requirements throughout the facility, including internal specifications and documents.

  • Serve as HACCP SME in cooperation with Corporate and plant personnel.

  • Communicate Corporate Quality Directives as requested.  Ensure the facility follows applicable Quality Management System directives.   Develop and maintain documentation such as SOP’s, manuals, policies and procedures, work instructions, etc.

  • Outline and oversee all facility related GMP self-inspection audits and monitor corrective actions and deviations to ensure continuous improvement to all related processes

  • Communicate, improve and ensure compliance to cannabis waste disposal requirements.

  • Create and maintain Finished Product specifications and labels (nutritional, labeling, shelf life, etc.) and ensure compliance.

  • Lead the development and conduct quality planning method testing for all product lines. Design, implement and document procedures for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection for production and incoming materials. 

  • SME for quality related Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting and performance for assigned plants.  Report quality issues, trends and losses to management in a timely manner.

  • All other reasonable duties, as assigned.


Competencies

  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment through collaboration with diverse groups in the execution of time sensitive projects

  • Experience with new plant start-ups, sanitation standards, Integrated Pest Management systems, and similar facility needs.

  • Expertise in a Quality Management role with an internal and external customer focus

  • Expertise in Laboratory Operations, Sampling, Testing, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)

  • Passion for and ability to perform training, mentoring, and developing of diverse Quality Assurance Managers and employees in job related and strategic tasks  

  • Willingness to coach and monitor Quality and Plant personnel in sanitation related best practices, providing training, coaching, and auditing when necessary

  • Understanding of statistical concepts (Control Charting, R&R studies, Confidence Intervals, etc.)

  • Comfortable investigating problems by performing root cause analysis; Willingness to partner with Operations on corrective action efforts

  • Able to make appropriate independent decisions using SOP’s, specifications, and similar resources.   

  • Communication proficiency – accurately and factually communicate results of product quality results, product safety, and KPI performance

  • Willingness to collaborate with plant personnel, corporate personnel, and other teams

  • Strong discretion skills

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

  • Comfortable working with medical cannabis and similar products 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may supervise one or more Quality Assurance personnel at assigned facility.  May indirectly guide sanitation teams, manufacturing personnel, etc.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional facility environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment and a large portion of the work will be performed in the plant where the noise may be loud.  Work may occur in a facility that is under construction and may require use of additional PPE or observance of restricted areas.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


Must be available to work on-site during the “core” work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some overtime and weekend hours are expected.
 
Travel

This position may require extended assignments in varied locations.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Quality Management role

  • HACCP Certification required (or understanding of HACCP and ability to obtain within 90 days of employment)

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience working with a GFSI schemed Quality Management system (SQF, BRC)

  • Food Manufacturing experience

  • MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook

  • Experience with HAZCOM and sanitation processes in manufacturing locations

Preferred Education and Experience

  • ·Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Food science or similar

  •  Significant Food Manufacturing Industry Experience in a Quality Assurance or other Leadership Role     

  •  Quality Engineering related skills (DOE, Specifications/Drawings, Applied Statistics, Root Cause Analysis, CAPA, Continuous Improvement)
